The Gift of Eternal Life

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
- Romans 6:23

Eternal life is an everlasting and abundant life with Jesus Christ. Since eternal life is a gift, it is free! It is not earned or deserved, as no one can do anything to earn a gift that has been given to us. This gift that we receive from Christ is by His grace. And what is grace? Grace is having the unmerited favor of God, because He loves us so much. The bible states, “for by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8). Therefore, by having faith in God’s grace, we can have the gift of eternal life.

Understand that man was born into sin. This dilemma has caused a devastating separation between Christ and man. There was a time when man had an ongoing fellowship with God, but because of Adam’s sin, that fellowship was broken. “When Adam sinned, sin entered into the entire human race. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.” (Romans 5:12 NLT) Although God loves man, the divide amongst them was not reconciled until Jesus Christ came and died.

Jesus Christ came and dwelt among men as God in the flesh. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1,14 KJV) Upon his death, the debt was paid for all our sins. Man is no longer bound to sin but able to establish a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. “For he has rescued us from the one who rules in the kingdom of darkness, and he has brought us in to the Kingdom of his dear Son. God has purchased our freedom with his blood and has forgiven all our sins (Colossians 1:13-14 NLT).

Although man and God’s relationship was reestablished by Jesus’ death, man must trust in Jesus Christ alone to be truly reconciled to God. As the bible says, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20 KJV)

If you would like to receive the gift of eternal life, pray this prayer: "Dear Jesus, I ask you to come into my heart and to forgive me of all of my sins. I repent of my sins. I believe that you died on the cross and rose from the dead and purchased a place in heaven for me. I thank you for coming into my life to cleanse me and take full control over my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen."

If you have done this, ensure that you pray everyday, read the bible daily, get involved in a bible believing church where you can gain a relationship with other believers as yourself, and tell others what great things God has done for you. God bless you!!
